This test is primarily designed to qualify post-doctoral students, as required by the Basic Law. However, the exam is also allowed for undergraduate students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies (MA and PhD) in order to obtain the necessary foreign language certificate for their studies. Students should first research the universities they aspire to attend and inquire whether the UDS certificate is accepted or not.
The UDS exam consists of 80 questions covering vocabulary, grammar, sentence completion, translation to and from Turkish, reading texts, completing conversations, paraphrasing (finding a sentence closest in meaning), completing paragraphs, and identifying unrelated sentences within a paragraph.
The test has a maximum score of 100 points, evenly distributed across the questions.
The UDS test comes in two formats: a direct written examination and an online version administered via the internet. Both formats are similar in terms of questions, test duration, certificate validity, and so on. The exam is held every month.
